Need some ideas for your vodcast??  All the previous classes are listed to the right in the archives.  If you skim through the weeks past, you will find links to past student's websites. (Usually around week 2, they linked their blogs together just like we did) The previous students also created vocasts similar to the ones assigned to you and posted those vodcasts on their blog.

Windows Movie Maker/ I Movie tutorial  (This is an optional class option) If you do not need help with your movie making software, you can work independently.  If you are not familiar with your movie making software.  I will be on Skype on Tuesday evening from 5-9pm.  I will be  prepared to give a tutorial on your movie making software.  I would appreciate it if you could let me know ahead of time if you will or will not be on Skype on Tuesday night so I will be best prepared.

Assignment Due (12/3): Vodcast

The first theory of learning, we will study is Multiple Intelligence. We were introduced to Howard Gardner and his theory of Multiple Intelligences the first week of class.  There is a LARGE amount of information on the world wide web to help you understand what are the multiple intelligences.  Since we do not need to buy a textbook, we will use the rich and vast resources already avaliable to us on the web so share with the class our topic.

Please create a vodcast.  In its simpliest form a vodcast is a picture slideshow with a voice narrative.  But there is no need to stifle your creativity. We have already seen examples of vodcasts through links on this blog. Last week's video about RSS feeds, used a marker and drawing to teach.  This week, the video Infowhelm uses text to share ideas.   I have seen puppet shows, talking avatars and skits as well as pictures and voice.  Please feel free to be as creative as you like.

Your Vodcast assignment is to research a specific intelligences and share with the class what you learned.  Below is a list of who is assigned what intelligence.  Of course, I have tried to match you up with a weakness you may have as an intelligence.

I am assuming everyone is comfortable with the movie making software on their computers to begin.  You have Windows Movie Maker on a PC and iMovie on a Mac. If I am wrong, please let me know. Please feel free to ask for help when needed.

Your assignment is to create a vodcast to teach the class about the particular intelligence you have been assigned.  To begin, research your intelligence.  The internet has plenty of information.  I need a definition and skills related to this intelligence, examples of teaching and learning best suited for this intelligence, examples of technology that could be used to address this intelligence.  You could also include famous people who represented this kind of intelligence or possible careers suited to this intelligence.  As you read and research, also include anything you find interesting that you would like to share.

Once you have gathered you information, create a script.  It is helpful to record you voice in sections where you believe you will have a picture change.

Collect photos and/or videos as well as music for your vodcast (a vodcast is really just a super impressive slideshow! ) 


When your vodcast is complete, you can post it on your website/blog.  If you have used weebly’s free version as I do, you will need to Upload Vodcast to YouTube.  It must be made public for the class to view it.

Then Upload your youtube vodcast onto your blog.

It is very simple to create a YouTube account, but call me if you need help.  Please post it to your website/blog no later than Saturday, December 3  by midnight.  Once your video is posted on your blog, everyone should have access to it using Google Reader. 

Please remember YouTube will not accept a video with copyrighted materials. If you need help finding music and pictures you can use, please look to the following sites.

This is our EDUC 522 blog.  Here is where I will post each week's lesson, required reading, videos, discussion links and much more!!  You are responsible to read the blog every Tuesday and complete all assignments by Saturday at midnight.

The Syllabus: You are responsible for the information in the syllablus.  It is assumed you have read and understood the class requirements.  (Do not buy any textbooks unless you really are interested in reading the books)

The Blog will be updated every week for class.   The blog has updated and reliable information.  Please use the blog for dates and deadlines.  Everything you are assigned will be posted on the blog.
The Calendar is a quick look at our plans for the future.  Currently, the calendar is still a little under construction.
The Discussion Board: Respond to our first discussion. 
Post an introduction of your self.  Include your name, where you work and what you teach. Add two interesting facts about yourself. Also include whether you have a PC or Mac.

I will be available on Skype from 6-9pm on Tuesday evening.  Please read all of this blog post before you call.  It is not necessary to have completed every task in this blog before you call me on Skype but it is necessary that you have read this post completely and are sure you can accomplish everything listed.

Assignment:
We will be creating our own blog and using and RSS feed to stay connected to everyone. 

First, I would like you to create a website/blog.  If you already have a website.  I would like you to add a blog entitled EDUC 522.  Please make sure your blog can host documents and video and also has an RSS feed.
If you do not already have a website, I suggest using weebly.com to create your website and blog. Go to www.weebly.com and create an account and a site.  Your site will need a home page, a blog and an About You page.  Here is a Weebly tutorial if you need help....

Once your website and blog are up and running, I would like the first post on your blog to state the results of your multiple intelligence quiz.  Please post your two highest scoring intelligences and your two lowest scoring intelligences on your blog.

Please email me your new weebly site address when you are finished. (No later than Sat., Nov. 19 at midnight)

Everyone is at different levels in technology skills.  It is my job to meet you at your level and coach you along.  If you are unsure, nervous or scared by any assignment, just send me a quick email or text.  I will do everything in my power to meet you where you are at and help you along.  DO NOT hesitate to ask me to do my job in making you feel comfortable.  I will assume you have a certain level of computer skill.  If you are not there yet..... I will be there for you!!!

The above assignments must be completed by Saturday, Nov. 19 (midnight).  All assignments will be given Monday and expected completed by Saturday evening of that same week.  The class tends to be very busy during the first 5 weeks and the pace slows a little towards the end.
 
 
Fall II Educ 522 Learning in the 21st Century.
This class will be an interesting mix of technologies and distance learning.
I have students enrolled in the class at the Murrieta campus as well as students enrolled in the exact same class at the exact same time at the Ventura County campus.  This will be fun.
The first clas is Tuesday, Nov 15th, I will have Skype office hours from 6-9pm.  Please read through the blog and follow those directions.  Once you have completed the assignments, please give me a call on Skype. 
Each week,  I will be providing course readings, discussion and assignments via email, Skype, Dim Dim, and Vodcasts.  This unqie hybrid of distance learning, and live web meeting will expose us to a wide variety of technologies.
I have sent out the first email to all of the students I know to be enrolled. 
 
If you are a classmate of EDUC 522 for Fall 2 (Nov. 2011-Jan. 2012).  There are no more related posts.  Any posts older than this, are related to previous classes.
If you are a classmate from a previous class, you may prefer to take this website off of your google reader..unless you want to hear from me weekly again!!
 
Thank you everyone for all your hard work in the class.  This class was a lot for fun for me!! I enjoyed everyone's personalities and insight into the material.  I would love your insight on one more topic.
