Multiple Intelligences
Thanks to our fellow classmates, we have been introduced to all of the multiple intelligences.  Now, we will test how well we understand and can identify multiple intelligences in people (mostly our students).  This website has a separate blog, entitled Movie Night.  Please watch each video and use the document below (Multiple Intelligences in Life ..or movies) to record your thoughts and ideas.  If you would like to get together as a group meeting in a central location, you can work together to complete only one worksheet per group.

Upcoming Assignments
Due Oct 2 "Multiple Intelligences in Life ..or movies" worksheet

Due Oct 9– Bloom/Gardner Grid
Template and Sample can be found on last week's blog.  Hopefully, you have begun to fill in the squares already. Choose a unit of study that is broad enough to think of many activities to teach. If you have already decided on a capstone, use that topic. Fill in the squares using an activity that meets both the multiple intelligence and the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which it intersects. A sample has been provided n last week's blog.  I expect 90% or more of the grid to be completed.  It should be saved as "Grid Your Name Fall 1". You will post it on your blog and email it to me before Oct. 9.

Due Oct 16 - Multiple Intelligence Lesson Plan.
Template and Sample to follow.  Choosing just one idea (one square) from your Bloom/Gardner Grid, you will create a lesson plan.  If the topic of your grid is related to your upcoming capstone, then this lesson will be one of many in your capstone.  You may use the lesson format from the template and the sample or you may choose any lesson plan format you wish as long as it includes all the components of the template and sample.

Google Reader.
You have already set up a Google Reader and added everyone's blogs to it.  I STRONGLY suggest either setting up the google reader as your home page. Directions here.  OR you could create an iGoogle page.  iGoogle will allow you to have your google reader as well as other apps such a time, facebook, joke of the day, calendar reminders and weather all on the same page which can be set as your homepage. Directions here.

Your first assignment is to watch and comment on one vodcast for each intelligence and an overview of the multiple intelligences. We should have two videos for each and every intelligence.  You may pick which of the two videos you would like to watch for each intelligence.  All of the videos should be waiting for you in your google reader to watch.  Please comment directly on their blog. There is a comment link on the top right of everyone's post.  For our next assignment, you will need to understand all of the multiple intelligences as well as Bloom's taxonomy.  Each vodcast should provide you with the basic understanding needed for the assignment.
Overview of the Multiple Intelligences
Linguistic intelligence
("word smart"):

Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number smart")
Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")
Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")

Musical intelligence ("music smart")
Interpersonal intelligence ("people smart")
Intrapersonal intelligence ("self smart")
Naturalist intelligence ("nature smart")

Bloom’s Taxonomy
Read the article on Bloom’s Taxonomy.  This is a brief article.  Most students have a basic understanding of Bloom’s from undergraduate work. If you need a more in depth look into Bloom’s, please let me know and I will send you more information. Leave a comment on the article on the discussion board.  Continue the discussion on two other’s comments.

I am assuming everyone is comfortable with the movie making software on their computers to begin.  You have Windows Movie Maker on a PC and iMovie on a Mac. If I am wrong, please let me know. Please feel free to ask for help when needed.

Your assignment is to create a vodcast to teach the class about the particular intelligence you have been assigned.  To begin, research your intelligence.  The internet has plenty of information.  I need a definition and skills related to this intelligence, examples of teaching and learning best suited for this intelligence, examples of technology that could be used to address this intelligence.  You could also include famous people who represented this kind of intelligence or possible careers suited to this intelligence.  As you read and research, also include anything you find interesting that you would like to share.

Once you have gathered you information, create a script.  It is helpful to record you voice in sections where you believe you will have a picture change.

Collect photos and/or videos as well as music for your vodcast (a vodcast is really just a super impressive slideshow! )

When your vodcast is complete, you can post it on your website/blog.  If you have used weebly’s free version as I do, you will need to post your vodcast to YouTube and then link the YouTube video to your page.  It is very simple to create a YouTube account, but call me if you need help.  Please post it to your website/blog no later than Saturday, September18th  by midnight.  Once your video is posted on your blog, everyone should have access to it using Google Reader.  Next week, we will need to watch and comment on a video from each intelligence.

Please remember YouTube will not accept a video with copyrighted materials. If you need help finding music and pictures you can use, please look to the following sites.

Please feel free to view any of the videos on our facebook page from previous classes.  I would suggest you take a look at a few of them and not just the one related to your assignment to compare quality.  (Not every video received an A)

Due – October 9 Bloom/Gardner Grid
Please use the attached template.  Choose a unit of study that is broad enough to think of many activities to teach. If you have already decided on a capstone, use that topic. Fill in the squares using an activity that meets both the multiple intelligence and the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which it intersects. This will be easier after we watch next weeks videos. A sample has been provided.  I expect 90% or more of the grid to be completed.  It should be saved as "Grid Your Name Fall 1" When complete, it gets email to me ([email protected] ).  It also should be posted on your website/blog.

Please begin by doing the following:

2. Website: Please visit the class website.  Be sure to read the syllabus, blog and calendar.  The syllabus is important for summary of assignments and grading policy. The blog will be updated every week for class.  This blog is the first place to start every week.  It will clearly list everything you need to know, read, watch, comment on or complete. The calendar is meant only to be a brief outline of the course.

If you already have a facebook page, just request to befriend apumalone.  If you do not have a facebook account, please join.  (You do not have to befriend anyone other than this class and you can delete it after class is over… but don’t you really want to know what the facebook talk is all about!!?) Our facebook page has a WALL, this is where you start, a photos tab, and  a discussion tab.

Post an introduction of yourself on the wall.  Include your name, where you work, what you teach and how long you have been teaching.  Please post 2-4 pictures that relate to who you are.  Do not forget to label the pictures.  Also include whether you have a PC or Mac.If you need help, please contact me!

Assignment:

We will be creating our own blog and using and RSS feed to stay connected to everyone.  First, I would like you to create a website/blog.  I suggest using weebly.com to create your website if you do not already have one. (You will need a website or blog that supports video and documents and has an RSS feed.  If you already have this with another host, you do not need weebly)  Go to www.weebly.com and create an account and a site.  Your site will need a home page, a blog and an About You page.  This is a weebly account that is hosting our class website so you may use it as an example. Please email me your new weebly site address when you are finished. (No later than Sat., Sept. 11)

Everyone is at different levels in technology skills.  It is my job to meet you at your level and coach you along.  If you are unsure, nervous or scared by any assignment, just send me a quick email or text.  I will do everything in my power to meet you where you are at and help you along.  DO NOT hesitate to ask me to do my job in making you feel comfortable.  I will assume you have a certain level of computer skill.  If you are not there yet..... I will be there for you!!!

I am looking forward to seeing your new websites/blogs.

The above assignments must be completed by Saturday, Sept 11 (midnight).  All assignments will be given Monday morning and expected completed by Saturday evening of that same week.  The class tends to be very busy during the first 5 weeks and the pace slows a little towards the end.

CLASS INTRODUCTION.

This is our blog.  Every week, your assignments will be posted here.  I will try my best to be incredibly clear what is expected and how to complete it.
