Early in the week, everyone added their blog address to our facebook wall.  Hopefully, you have set up your google reader with everyone's blog.  (I am still waiting for Charlie's blog and for Ginny to add a blog to her website) I have set up my google reader and use it as my home page.  Everytime someone posts an assignment or video on their blog, I will be notified by my google reader.  You will have the same access to everyone's work.  By Sunday morning, everyone will have their videos up on their blogs.  You will be able to use your google reader to access them all and watch. That will be a part of next week's assignments.

Welcome to the second week of class.  Everyone did a great job on the first week.

This is a busy week.  Please do not hesitant to email, text or call with ANY questions.

You have created a website/blog and you have emailed me your site address.
POST YOUR URL on the facebook wall for EVERYONE to see.  Please do this as soon as poosible.

Please watch the video above about Google Reader.  Once you have watched the video, set up a Google Reader for yourself.  Subscribe to my blog at
www.apumalone.weebly.com/blog.  I will add a one word post every day so they you can check to make sure your feed is working. Next, add everyone else’s blog to your Google Reader. Please check the facebook wall for everyone’s address. Please do this as soon as possible you will be prepared when everyone begins to post their vodcasts.

Lecture
Read MI & Technology: A Winning Combination!
On our facebook discussion board, please comment on the article and reply to two other’s comments.

Your first Vodcast assignment is to research a specific intelligences and share with the class what you learned.  Below is a list of who is assigned what intelligence.  Of course, I have tried to match you up with a weakness you may have as an intelligence.

Bradley   Linguistic intelligence ("word smart"):
Katie   Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number smart")
(Special Guest)  Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")
Tracy Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")

Crystal Musical intelligence ("music smart")
Charlie Interpersonal intelligence ("people smart")
 Annie Intrapersonal intelligence ("self smart")
Ginny Naturalist intelligence ("nature smart")

I am assuming everyone is comfortable with the movie making software on their computers to begin.  If I am wrong, please let me know. Please feel free to ask for help when needed.

Your assignment is to create a vodcast to teach the class about the particular intelligence you have been assigned.  To begin, research your intelligence.  I need a definition and skills related to this intelligence, examples of teaching and learning best suited for this intelligence, examples of technology that could be used to address this intelligence.  You could also include famous people who represented this kind of intelligence or possible careers suited to this intelligence.  As you read and research, also include anything you find interesting that you would like to share.

Once you have gathered you information, create a script.  It is helpful to pause where you believe you will have a picture change.

Collect photos and/or videos as well as music for your vodcast (a vodcast is really just a super impressive slideshow! )

When your vodcast is complete, you can post it on your website/blog.  If you have used weebly’s free version as I do, you will need to post your vodcast to YouTube and then link the YouTube video to your page.  It is very simple to create a YouTube account, but call me if you need help.  Please post it to your website/blog no later than Saturday, June 26  by midnight.  Once your video is posted on your blog, everyone should have access to it using Google Reader.  Next week, we will need to watch and comment on all videos.

Please remember YouTube will not accept a video with copyrighted materials. If you need help finding music and pictures you can use, please look to the following sites.

Please feel free to view any of the videos on our facebook page from previous classes.  I would suggest you take a look at a few of them and not just the one related to your assignment to compare quality.  (Not every video received an A)

Upcoming Assignments
Due July 10– Bloom/Gardner Grid
Please use the attached template.  Choose a unit of study that is broad enough to think of many activities to teach. If you have already decided on a capstone, use that topic. Fill in the squares using an activity that meets both the multiple intelligence and the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which it intersects. This will be easier after we watch next weeks videos. A sample has been provided.  I expect 90% or more of the grid to be completed.  It should be saved as "Grid Your Name Spring II" When complete, it gets email to me ([email protected] ).  It also should be posted on your website/blog.

Assignment:

We will be creating our own blog and using and RSS feed to stay connected to everyone.  First, I would like you to create a website/blog.  I suggest using weebly.com to create your website if you do not already have one. (You will need a website or blog that supports video and documents and has an RSS feed.  If you already have this with another host, you do not need weebly)  Go to www.weebly.com and create an account and a site.  Your site will need a home page, a blog and an About You page.  This is a weebly account that is hosting our class website so you may use it as an example. Please email me your new weebly site address when you are finished. (No later than Sat., June 26)

Everyone is at different levels in technology skills.  It is my job to meet you at your level and coach you along.  If you are unsure, nervous or scared by any assignment, just send me a quick email or text.  I will do everything in my power to meet you where you are at and help you along.  DO NOT hesitate to ask me to do my job in making you feel comfortable.  I will assume you have a certain level of computer skill.  If you are not there yet..... I will be there for you!!!

I am looking forward to seeing your new websites/blogs.

The above assignments must be completed by Saturday, June 26 (midnight).  This summer class is a nine week course finished in six weeks.

Unit Plan is due this week.

Teacher Training videos.  http://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/general.html Please take a look at this site.  I think it a great find.  Spend some time exploring.  We will not have a discussion for this topic but I think you should bookmark it for future reference.

Our last discussion.  I would like some input on the online class.  I tried to make sure I was assessable and helpful to you anytime and all the time.  I also hope you felt connected with myself and the class.  Please let me know what you liked most about the class and the format of the class.  Also, help me out with some helpful criticism.  What could have made the experience better for you concerning not only how the class was set up but also what you learned?  A previous class suggested we share our work and I am hopping connecting all of our blogs together made it possible to take a look at everyone's work.  I am have been trying some new technologies and websites to include some "realtime" discussions because I think that may be lacking in the class.  What do you think?

You all did a great job!!  I was thrilled to get to know you!!  Please email me anytime during your program and even once you have completed your master's,  if needed!!! Let me know when you complete the program so I can send you best wishes!!

AND enjoy SUMMER!!!!!
Nicol

Thanks to Steve, (WAY to be on top of it) a faulty link has been repaired in this week's blog.

The video has been updated.  Here is the same information you will find in our blog assignments for this week.

We are preparing our young students for a successful future.  Our students need to learn to become brilliant adults who invent and create and move our culture into a new generation.  So what is that future we are preparing them for? Watch... "Did You Know 4.0 Human Capital"

Two weeks ago, we watched a video featuring Jill Bolte Taylor.  She described her left and right brain as she became aware of it during her stroke.

We continue looking into our brains and the differences between left and right side thinking with Daniel Pink.  He has authored of a great book; A WHOLE NEW MIND Why Right Brainers Will Rule the World.  Daniel Pink writes business books and is a motivational speaker to encourage others to choose their career paths and their futures.
Please watch the following video.  Our discussion board will have more specific questions this week in response to Dan Pink, Adundance, Asia and Automation

How does this relate to teaching elementary school?
With so much attention focused on THE TEST, it is easy to lose site of our true focus.  We are preparing our young students for a successful future.  Our students need to learn to become brilliant adults who invent and create and move our culture into a new generation.  So what is that future we are preparing them for? Watch... "Did You Know 4.0 Human Capital" The first video is Daniel Pink sharing some of this thoughts on what our world is becoming and what we and our students need to be to be successful.
The second video is Daniel Pink discussing how this applies to education.  Daniel Pink: Texas senate hearing on education. (You can fast forward to 1:51)

I strongly recommend adding the book, A WHOLE NEW MIND to your summer reading list.

The last assignment is to complete a unit plan.  Below is the template and a sample.  Your capstone is MANY, MANY, MANY things but it is usually based around a curricular unit.  You have already brainstormed over 35 ideas (Bloom/Gardner Grid) and completed a lesson plan as well as an assessment rubric on one curricular area.  Let's use all of this information to create the Unit plan.  Hopefully, you have or will have additional projects to this unit plan from your other classes.  Feel free to include these other projects in your unit plan.  This unit plan will be an incredible jump start to your CAPSTONE.

Unit Plan due WEDNESDAY June 16th.
