Upcoming Assignments
Due March 8th– Bloom/Gardner Grid
Hopefully, you have begun to fill in the squares already. Choose a unit of study that is broad enough to think of many activities to teach. If you have already decided on a capstone, use that topic. Fill in the squares using an activity that meets both the multiple intelligence and the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which it intersects. A sample has been provided in last week's blog.  I expect 90% or more of the grid to be completed.  It should be saved as "Grid Your Name Spring1". You will post it on your blog and email it to me ([email protected]) on or before March 8th.

Due March 15th - Multiple Intelligence Lesson Plan.
Template and Sample to follow.  Choosing just one idea (one square) from your Bloom/Gardner Grid, you will create a lesson plan.  If the topic of your grid is related to your upcoming capstone, then this lesson will be one of many in your capstone.  You may use the lesson format from the template and the sample or you may choose any lesson plan format you wish as long as it includes all the components of the template and sample. It should be saved as "Lesson Plan Your Name Spring1" When complete, it gets email to me ([email protected] ).  It also should be posted on your website/blog.

Student Vodcasts

Your first assignment this week is to watch and comment on every  vodcast.

All of the videos should be waiting for you in your google reader to watch.  Please comment directly on their blog. There is a comment link on the top right of everyone's post.  For our next assignment, you will need to understand all of the multiple intelligences.  Each vodcast should provide you with the basic understanding needed for the assignment.

Ruth                  Overview of the Multiple Intelligences
Kathy                Linguistic intelligence
("word smart"):
Donna               Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number smart")
Gabriela          Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")
Holly                  Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")
Svetlana          Musical intelligence ("music smart")

PowerPoint; Multiple Intelligences Overview

Multiple Intelligences
Special Guests .. Temple Grandin
Our special guest to share spatial intelligence is Temple Grandin. Temple Grandin gives a fanastic speech. She is a very successful woman who has autism.  Her speech is not only important to hear for your children with autism but she is an amazing visual learner. Her speech helps us understand how the mind of a visual thinker works.
(I strongly recommend the movie out on DVD. It was an HBO movie.) I believe EVERY mother and EVERY teacher should see this movie!! There will be an EXTRA CREDIT for the movie if you choose to rent the movie and watch it!!  The extra credit will be available throughout the class so just email what you thought of the movie when you have seen it.

Bloom’s Taxonomy
Read the article on Bloom’s Taxonomy.  This is a brief article.  Most students have a basic understanding of Bloom’s from undergraduate work. If you need a more in depth look into Bloom’s, please let me know and I will send you more information.

Vodcasts
Your first Vodcast assignment is to research a specific intelligences and share with the class what you learned.  Below is a list of who is assigned what intelligence.  Of course, I have tried to match you up with a weakness you may have as an intelligence.

I am assuming everyone is comfortable with the movie making software on their computers to begin.  You have Windows Movie Maker on a PC and iMovie on a Mac. If I am wrong, please let me know. Please feel free to ask for help when needed.

Your assignment is to create a vodcast to teach the class about the particular intelligence you have been assigned.  To begin, research your intelligence.  The internet has plenty of information.  I need a definition and skills related to this intelligence, examples of teaching and learning best suited for this intelligence, examples of technology that could be used to address this intelligence.  You could also include famous people who represented this kind of intelligence or possible careers suited to this intelligence.  As you read and research, also include anything you find interesting that you would like to share.

Once you have gathered you information, create a script.  It is helpful to record you voice in sections where you believe you will have a picture change.

Collect photos and/or videos as well as music for your vodcast (a vodcast is really just a super impressive slideshow! )

When your vodcast is complete, you can post it on your website/blog.  If you have used weebly’s free version as I do, you will need to post your vodcast to YouTube and then link the YouTube video to your page.  It is very simple to create a YouTube account, but call me if you need help.  Please post it to your website/blog no later than Tuesday, February 22.  Once your video is posted on your blog, everyone should have access to it using Google Reader.  Next week, we will need to watch and comment on a video from each intelligence.

Please remember YouTube will not accept a video with copyrighted materials. If you need help finding music and pictures you can use, please look to the following sites.

Music which is legal to use is available from these sites:

Pictures

Please feel free to view any of the videos on our facebook page from previous classes.  I would suggest you take a look at a few of them and not just the one related to your assignment to compare quality.  (Not every video received an A)

Upcoming Assignment
Due March 8 –  Bloom/Gardner Grid
Please use the attached template.  Choose a unit of study that is broad enough to think of many activities to teach. If you have already decided on a capstone, use that topic. Fill in the squares using an activity that meets both the multiple intelligence and the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy in which it intersects. This will be easier after we watch next weeks videos. A sample has been provided.  I expect 90% or more of the grid to be completed.  It should be saved as "Grid Your Name Spring 1" When complete, it gets email to me ([email protected] ).  It also should be posted on your website/blog.

EDUC 522

Welcome to class.
A review of each week's class can be found here on this blog. (www.apumalone.weebly.com/blog)
Assignments, “lectures” and readings will be found on our class website .
Your work will be posted to your website and emailed directly to me.  I am here to support you and assist you completely!!

These are the tasks we completed the first day:

1. Email:  Please email me your email address that you use most often as well as a phone number. My email is [email protected]

2. Website: Please visit the class website.  Be sure to read the syllabus, blog and calendar.  The syllabus is important for summary of assignments and grading policy. The blog is a review for each week's class.   The calendar is meant only to be a brief outline of the course.

3. First “Lecture”   Digital Natives
*Digital Natives: Please read the article  This is a very important article and you may have read it before but it is such a good place to start.
*Kids Today: Watch the video

4. Second “Lecture”:  Multiple Intelligences

*MI Video: Watch the video
*MI PowerPoint.   The PowerPoint can be downloaded below this post
*MI Article: Read the article.
Multiple Intelligences Overview
*MI Quiz: Take the online quiz  Please post your Greatest and Weakest intelligence as the first post on my weebly blog entitled EDUC 522.

Assignment:
We will be creating our own blog and using and RSS feed to stay connected to everyone.  First, I would like you to create a website/blog.  I suggest using weebly.com to create your website if you do not already have one. (You will need a website or blog that supports video and documents and has an RSS feed.  If you already have this with another host, you do not need weebly)  Go to www.weebly.com and create an account and a site.  Your site will need a home page, a blog (I suggest labeling the blog.. EDUC 522) and an About You page.  The first post on your EDUC 522 blog should be to list your highest and lowest intelligences based on the quiz we took above.  This is a weebly account that is hosting our class website so you may use it as an example. Please email me your new weebly site address when you are finished. (No later than Sun., Feb. 13)

Everyone is at different levels in technology skills.  It is my job to meet you at your level and coach you along.  If you are unsure, nervous or scared by any assignment, just send me a quick email or text.  I will do everything in my power to meet you where you are at and help you along.  DO NOT hesitate to ask me to do my job in making you feel comfortable.  I will assume you have a certain level of computer skill.  If you are not there yet..... I will be there for you!!!

I am looking forward to seeing your new websites/blogs.

All assignments will be given in class Tuesday afternoon and expected completed by Sunday evening of the next week.  The class tends to be very busy during the first 5 weeks and the pace slows a little towards the end.
